Q: Is it a possibility to rent a car one-way to Denali National Park?
A:Unfortunately, there are no rental car agencies in Denali National Park, so you can not drop a rental car off there. However, there are a couple of alternate options available: You can take our convenient Anchorage Denali Express service from Anchorage to Denali, and then take Alaska Railroad’s Denali Star Train back the next day.
Or, if you are set on renting a car: After visiting Denali, you will have to detour further north to Fairbanks, to drop your rental car off (Additional fees may apply.) You can then take a train back to Anchorage. You will have to leave Denali pretty early, or stay the night in Fairbanks to do this, as the Fairbanks train leaves for Anchorage at 8am, and arrives at 8pm.
Q: Is it possible to travel from Anchorage to Denali Backcountry Lodge in one day?
A:Absolutely! There are a few different ways to get to the Lodge from Anchorage. Probably the easiest way is to take advantage of our Anchorage Denali Express Motorcoach service. It is a comfortable ride on a motorcoach, and arrives in time to connect with the afternoon bus to Denali Backcountry Lodge.
Unfortunately, the train from Anchorage to Denali National Park, does not arrive in time to connect with the afternoon bus to the lodge. However, you can take the Anchorage to Denali train, and then take a chartered flight to the lodge.
Q: My family is traveling to Alaska next summer (2011) and we’re interested in seeing some Alaskan animals other than the usual Bear, Moose, Caribou etc. Do you have any Suggestions?
A: We have a lot of interesting bird species, Golden Eagles are a beautiful example. So are the sea mammals that litter our coasts. A great place to see those are in Seward at the Alaska Sealife Center. They have sea lions, baby otters, octopus and a massive variety of other unexpected Alaskan wildlife. Another option is the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. They have the regular Moose, Caribou, and bears but they also have some surprises. They have Lynx, Bison, and Musk Ox! There is also the Alaska Zoo, in Anchorage. The zoo hosts Polar Bears, wolves, llamas, moose, birds of prey, and even Snow Leopards!
Q: When is the longest day of the year? How long is it?
A: The longest day of the year is Summer Solstice, and usually falls on the 20th or 21st of June. The length of day depends on whether you’re in Anchorage or Fairbanks. In Anchorage the day is about 19 hours and 22 minutes long. In Fairbanks the day lasts a whopping 21 hours. You should know that for the hours that the sun is not up on those days that it is light enough outside to still carry on most activities, and that you don’t even need your headlights on!
Q: How far from Anchorage to Denali Backcountry Lodge? Can we rent a car and drive to the lodge?
A: Anchorage to Denali is 256 Miles and about 5 hours of driving. You can rent a car, but re recommend taking the Motorcoach or Train. Unfortunately you can not drive to the Backcountry Lodge, as there are no personal vehicles allowed in Denali National Park.
