Cheap Alaska Cruises?

Q: Are there cheap Alaska Cruises?

A: Alaska Cruises can be a lot cheaper than you might think! There are many factors that can affect the cost of an Alaska Cruise. The biggest cost factor is the location of your cabin on the ship; the most affordable would be an interior cabin without an ocean view. If the price still seems high, remember that generally, cruises are all-inclusive and you don’t need to worry about the cost of food, or on-ship activities unless you plan to eat in specialty restaurants.

Alaska Denali Tours also has some great Alaska Web Specials that can save you money on your cruise. Connect your cruise with a land-based Alaska Vacation, and enjoy some great savings! A Grand Alaska Cruise Vacation accomplishes this perfectly!

So depending on a few factors, Alaska Cruises are affordable! Take a look at our Alaska Cruises Pageto find affordable cruises; prices can start as low as $529.00!

Can we take the morning bus to the Denali Backcountry Lodge?

Q: Can we take the morning bus to the Denali Backcountry Lodge?

A:Yes, however, if you are planning to stay overnight at the Denali Backcountry Lodge, you must take the afternoon bus.  It is still the same fully narrated, exciting, wildlife searching adventure, just set a little later in the day. You will arrive at the Denali Backcountry Lodge in the evening, on time for a Family-Style Dinner, and a peaceful night in your private cedar cabin.

The morning bus is reserved for the Denali Backcountry Adventure.  It is a full-day adventure and requires an early start, which is why the morning bus is completely reserved. It’s most complete trip to Kantishna, in Denali National park, in just one day.

Is Denali Backcountry Lodge open year round?

Q: Is the Denali Backcountry Lodge open year round? Can we take the Denali Backcountry Adventure in December?

A: The entire towns of Denali and Kantishna shut completely down from around September 15- May 15th.  The traffic lights even shut off.  There is no lodging in or around the Park Entrance during this hiatus.  The Denali Park Road goes unmaintained after the first snow, and the wildlife in the park get a well deserved reprieve from human visitors.  There are plenty of other activities you can partake in while you are staying in this winter wonderland though.  One of the most treasured is seeing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) in Fairbanks.  There are also plenty of winter sports to enjoy including snowmachining, dog mushing, and skiing!

When can we visit Alaska and avoid mosquitoes, but not get too cold?

Q: What is the best time of year to visit Alaska? We’d like to enjoy the outdoors when it’s not too cold, but we’d also like to avoid the mosquitoes.

A: Thats a tough one.  As soon as the temperature gets above freezing for any amount of time, and the lakes and wetlands start to thaw, the bugs come out.  Right now, late May/ early June, is the best time in my opinion.  The mosquitoes are large (about the size of nickels), but they’re also slow and there are not as many.

How long is the longest day of the year? When is it?

Q: When is the longest day of the year? How long is it?

A: The longest day of the year is Summer Solstice, and usually falls on the 20th or 21st of June.  The length of day depends on whether you’re in Anchorage or Fairbanks.  In Anchorage the day is about 19 hours and 22 minutes long.  In Fairbanks the day lasts a whopping 21 hours.  You should know that for the hours that the sun is not up on those days that it is light enough outside to still carry on most activities, and that you don’t even need your headlights on!
